Here at PERC we specialise in remote site Emergency Response training. This includes training Fire & Rescue Teams, Fire & Rescue Consultancy, Management and Structure of Emergency Response, Developing Site Emergency Response Plans and Safe Operating Procedures for companies that understand the importance of having trained, professional staff who are prepared for any emergency that may arise.

Training programmes are bespoke, designed for site specific risk requirements and although some theory input is required for all skills, training is very much designed for realistic practical scenarios where possible. These practical skills are emphasised so as the trainees will learn to trust their own skills as well as knowing that their colleagues within their rescue team will all be working to the same professional high standard.

Our Consultants work with full reference to IFE (Institute of Fire Engineers) standards and guidelines. Dependant on your own organisational requirements we offer team and individual training , with internally or externally regulated certification, both being quality assured.

To give you an idea as to what training can be given to your Emergency Response Teams, the following are a selection of programmes which are available.

• Firefighting – This will include basic firefighting as well as any other bespoke site requirements. For example, if your site has a flight to and from site then relevant training will be given for aircraft fire and rescue. Whatever the requirements all trainees will become highly trained so as all team members remain safe if required to tackle fires.
• Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). This training will be included as part of the firefighting programme, but will also be included in the HAZMAT programme. Safety of your Emergency Response Team is paramount so as when called upon they can react safely, quickly and professionally to assist their site colleagues that may require them.
• Road Traffic Collision (RTC) In the unfortunate event of a vehicle accident, however big or small, it is important that the Emergency Response Team are aware of scene safety, as well as effecting timely but safe casualty extrications.
• Hazardous Material (HAZMAT). Many sites have site specific hazardous materials. It is important that if there is any form of leak or contamination that the Emergency Response Team can safely and correctly don chemical protection suits, contain the chemical, effect rescues as well as decontaminate themselves as well as any casualties so as not to unnecessarily spread contamination.
• Rescue. This is a very broad subject, so we will discuss with you what your site risks are for potential rescue and from there we will develop bespoke rescue course that will be unique for your site. This may include rope rescue, water rescue, entrapment, confined space or even rescue from machinery or large mining vehicles.
• Incident Command. This is for team leaders who may have to take control of an incident and/or then possibly hand over to higher management at protracted incidents.
• Regulated and bespoke First aid training can be delivered at various levels ranging from basic life support to comprehensive First Aid, depending on the requirements of your Emergency Response Team.
• Training in liaising with other departments. This will include giving fire safety talks as well as walk rounds giving good proactive fire safety advice, including fire extinguisher training, fire marshalling, escape routes etc. This is something that we strongly encourage, it heightens the profile of your Emergency Teams on site as well as improving communication and understanding between departments and above all it is a direct proactive approach to preventing incidents through sharing knowledge.

As training progresses, leaders will naturally develop, when these team members are identified, our trainers will approach your management team and discuss whether this person should be further developed as a Team Leader, so as to be able to take charge of Emergency Response Teams at a junior level, if agreed, this person will learn man management skills, incident command and  welfare requirements ,to name but a few essential skills, enabling Team Leaders to take charge of teams at incidents as well as maintaining the harmony and welfare of the Emergency Response Team, liaising with management, as part of a structured chain of command.

Once trained, PERC offer a continuation training programme, so as site management can be sure that all Emergency Response Team members are maintaining their competencies. We will agree a time scale where PERC staff will return to your site and spend a few days with your team(s) and ensure that their training procedures are still at a competent level. We will check that all equipment is still safe and fit for purpose.

PERC, Phoenix Emergency Response Consultancy would initially like a visit to your site so as prior to training we can discuss our findings with the relevant site management. This will include, identifying site specific risks as well as discussing kit and equipment shortfalls that your Emergency response Team may require. This is purely to support management and the Emergency Response Teams. Ensuring that the team have the required training and equipment to respond and the site management have the reassuring knowledge that their teams are suitably trained and equipped to keep the site safe. On completion of our initial visit we will also send you a comprehensive report highlighting all areas that would benefit from development and training, whilst also highlighting current good practise.
